Margaret A. (Steagall) Schulz

Margaret Arlene Schulz (Steagall), 76, born on August 1, 1947 in Crandon, WI, and a
longtime resident of Oak Creek, WI, passed away peacefully at home on September 1,
2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. She faced cancer with the same strength,
courage and determination she approached everything in life.
A graduate of Crandon High School, Class of 1965, Margaret furthered her education
first at Vocational School and then at Langlade County Teachers College in Antigo, WI.
Her early career saw her teaching grade school in Land 'o Lakes, WI, for two years. In an
era when it wasn’t common, she single-handedly raised her daughter while earning her
BA in education from UW Oshkosh, a testament to her hardworking and independent
nature. After receiving her degree, Margaret chose a different path, venturing into the
realm of property management with the Madsen Corporation. Eventually, her
professional journey led her to a secretarial position with the Department of Defense.
Her adaptability and dedication shone brightly, and she was soon promoted, ultimately
leading to the job she loved, as a budget analyst for the US Army Recruiting Battalion.
She retired In 2011, after a 25-year tenure which showcased her expertise and
commitment.
But there was so much more to Margaret than her resume. Her defining characteristics
were her unyielding strength, profound love for family, and the deep bonds of lifelong
friendships she nurtured over the years. Her vibrant personality, marked by her sharp
wit and straight-shooting nature, ensured you always knew where you stood with her.
Filled with humor, sarcasm, and a generous heart, she had an undeniable passion for
connecting, often spending hours each week catching up with friends and family,
becoming a cornerstone for many. If you needed a hand, Margaret was there, ready to
help. Many can recall times when she'd roll up her sleeves and just jump in, doing
chores like dishes or laundry without being asked. Margaret's selfless nature was also
evident in the care she provided to her father, husband, and daughter during their times
of illness.
Margaret had a passion for collecting and decorating and her home was a reflection of
her love of tradition and playful spirit. From her vast collection of salt and pepper
shakers to her cookie jars, Snowbabies, and whimsical gnomes, each piece told a story.
But it was during the holiday season, especially Christmas, that her love for decorating
truly shone. Her home would transform into a winter wonderland, showcasing her
collection of old-fashioned Santa figurines. The time and love she poured into arranging
and displaying each decoration made the holidays all the more special.

Margaret found joy in life's simple pleasures, from reading, playing on her tablet, and
watching murder mysteries to crafting latch-hook rugs for those she loved. Her close
relationship with her grandson Sebastian and the time they spent together was
especially precious to her. Travel also brought Margaret joy, with memorable trips to
visit family and friends, including several cherished winters in Florida with her aunt,
Shirley Plummer. She was committed to maintaining connections, evident in her regular
phone calls and visits. Yet, she was most content at home, surrounded by family and
her beloved cat, Charlie.
Although her absence is deeply felt, Margaret is now reunited with her husband, Arnold
Schulz, her parents Ben & Louise Steagall, and her brother Daniel Steagall. Her legacy
lives on in her daughter, Heather Spencer, grandson, Sebastian Spencer, brothers Alfred
and Neal Steagall, her cherished friend Lavern Winkleman, her treasured feline
companion, Charlie, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
While Margaret preferred no formal service, echoing her sentiment that those who
wished to see her should have done so in life, her memory will forever be enshrined in
the hearts of those she touched. In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, those
wishing to honor Margaret's memory are kindly asked to offer support directly to her
family.
Throughout her life, Margaret exemplified the spirit of a fighter, persistently overcoming
hardships and challenges that might have deterred others. Her resilience was evident
not only at the end but in every hurdle she faced. It would be an injustice to say
Margaret lost her final battle. For she fought with every ounce of her being, teaching us
that true strength lies not in the outcome but in the journey. Her life was a testament to
overcoming, to loving deeply, and to putting others before oneself. Margaret may no
longer be with us in body, but her spirit, her lessons, and her love will forever remain.
