Lawrence (Larry) Mikec, age 80, of Menomonee Falls, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was born in New Berlin, Wisconsin on January 15th, 1942 to John and Sylvia (Shaske) Mikec. Larry met the love of his life, Therese (Terry) Bendt and married her on October 29, 1966. Larry and Terry spent many years as leaders in Milwaukee Marriage Encounter.
Larry was an incredibly talented visual artist. He graduated in 1964 from the Milwaukee School of Art, now known as MIAD. Larry worked as a commercial illustrator in Milwaukee art studios; also as an independent illustrator for countless children’s textbooks. Larry’s true passion was his fine art, which he exhibited and sold in galleries and art shows, including the Lakefront Festival of Arts. His work remains in many private collections. Larry’s art is soulful and deep, providing a vision into this insightful and thoughtful man.
Larry enjoyed landscaping, gardening, bicycling, camping, spending time with his children, being ”Baboo” to his grandchildren, and in the 1970s, welcoming foster children into his heart and home.
Despite many physical restrictions in the last 20 years of his life, he remained positive, loved others unconditionally, and continued to create uplifting, amazing works of art. Larry was truly an inspiration to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Terry; three children, Paul (Rose Steffen), Amy, David (Amy Tess-Mattner); five grandchildren, Alex, Allison, Ben, Jude, Molly; sister, Karen Richards; brothers, Jack, Chuck, Jerry. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom, Steve; sister, Cathy Lovas
