Gale Brottlund Obituary

Lifelong Iron Mountain, MI resident Gale David Brottlund, born on 01/16/1942, died peacefully at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI on 11/18/2023. After graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1961, he proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force at Vandenberg Air Base (California).
There he met and married Viola Cuesta. Although divorcing in 2000, they remained close to the end. Following the Air Force and attending Northern Michigan University Gale spent the next 50 years as a self-employed carpenter/contractor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and for many years golfing (and the clubhouse maybe even more so) at Bombers in Norway. In later years he met the guys for coffee every morning at B’s Café.
Gale always had a smile on his face and was true “Salt of the Earth”. He always helping others and never seemed to take life too seriously.
Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Gertrude (nee Anderson) Brottlund and his brother Bruce (Phyllis) Brottlund. He is survived by his son David (Ann) Brottlund, granddaughter Kristen Lusardi (Jake), great-grandson Gary Gerber, nephew Shawn Brottlund and Vi (Larry) Wagner. We would like to give special thanks to Frank Cuilini for his help and friendship throughout the many years. Frank is not just a friend, he is family.
Also, thanks to the staff at Froedtert TICU and 5SW for their extraordinary care and kindness.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
