Richard Rutten Obituary

Richard R. Rutten, died on April 13, 2018, after a long battle of diabetes and heart disease. Rick was born on June 2, 1958. He was born and raised in Menasha, WI, where he graduated from Menasha High School in 1976 and went on to Fox Valley Technical College to be trained as an Automotive/Diesel Technician.  He lived in the Fox Valley area until 1996, when he moved to Milwaukee as an over-the-road diesel truck driver.  Rick changed careers in 2000, due to his health.  He became a City of Milwaukee Public Works employee, utilizing his diesel engine training.

Rick enjoyed spending time fishing on Lake Michigan, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.  He always made time to attend school functions when his nieces and nephews were young.  He would celebrate events with his apartment community family where the kids would call him “grandpa”.  His favorite celebration was Red Nose Day, when he would pass out Red Noses to the kids in his community.  Rick always enjoyed parties and group functions where he could tell his silly jokes and enjoy a good story.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick & Ursula (Geurts) Rutten his brother, Paul Rutten and an infant nephew.  Rick is survived by his sisters, Kari (Kevin) Gerrits, San Jose, CA; Joanne (Mike) Hok, Menasha; Vera (Armond) Rameciti, Waupaca.  Beloved uncle to Michael, Elizabeth & Allison Gerrits, Lindsay & Erin Rutten, Gavin, Brett & Eric Lamers, Casey Trader & Christine (Trader) Schultz and several great nieces and nephews.

Rick will forever be remembered for his humor, compassion and generosity for everyone he encountered.  In leu of gifts or donations, please remember Rick by donating to a local charity with him in mind.

A Memorial to celebrate Rick’s life will be held on June 24, 2018 from Noon - 4:00 pm at 554 N. Lake Street, Port Washington, WI.  It is Area #1 at Upper Lake Park East Mini-Shelter/Lions Centennial Pavilion.
